"Marine Girls" will be the first capsule collection to come ashore at the Sessùn Permanent Pop-up store.
A breath of sea air will open the doors of Sessun’s Permanent Pop-Up store: a capsule collection that is inspired by the Irish coast, the calanques in Marseilles, an ocean liner passing the Pointe du Raz in Brittany, and a barge on the Canal du Midi.
Pea coats, duffel bags, caps, boots, rain capes, stripes and cable stitching, navy blue, red ochre, foam white, inks and anchors, ropes and nets ... all of the key elements of maritime life – and even freshwater fishermen - have been brought together, reinterpreted and embraced into our urban lives.
Thus the abacus suspension in ‘kraft’ denim belonging to a modern day Captain Haddock, hangs next to a pair of sailor trousers worn by the muse of photographer Jacques-Henri Lartigue; glazed water jugs covered in rope by Pierre Buisson are an invitation to replay a scene from Jean Vigo’s film Atalante; the French Navy style neck scarves are tied around the bottle necks of a selection of locally sourced French beers; the beautiful mirror encircled by embroidered wool seems to have come straight out of a merchant ship that once upon a time set sail to the shores of India.
A whole world of things that could fit on the "shell island" that the girls from Marine Girls sang about in 1983.
